I totally agree - I can never understand drivers who 'defend' when a competitor is already alongside them - totally out of order.
Just to further clarify my earlier post I would give two examples of 'racing lines' not always being the quickest lines. Both are at Bayford. The first, going into turn 2, if you take the fastest line you are just inviting a following kart to slide up inside, take your line, AND your position. If someone is following close behind one takes a tighter line into the right hander to counter this.
The second is into Boot Hill. Again, if one sweeps out wide to the right before taking the first left hand corner of this complex you will lose a position every lap. Again, the 'racing' line in close quarters is tight into the first part of the complex, remaining tight and getting a good run through the second, right hand section of the complex.
Once one has shaken off the attention of following drivers you can then revert to the fastest line. Having said this, Boot Hill is one of those strange corners where the line is more dependent on kart set-up - some are quicker taking the tighter line...!
