If you follow all the thread you will find a reasonably detailed breakdown of a budget for doing Stars, S1 and many club meetings for a year. All in it came to under Ł10k - still a lot of money but it was intended to allow someone to do their own budget based on what racing they wanted to do.
It ignored the start-up costs of buying the kart/engine/race suit and so on.
If you need to employ a mechanic/driver coach then that will be extra and not everyone will have the knowledge to do it themselves.
Some will choose to race with a team so that they have the awning space, maybe some hospitality, compressors etc available.
There are people who have race trucks which probably depreciate by Ł10k to Ł15k per year.
If you take the real full costs including time off work for travel on a Thursday so the you can practice on Friday you can add more cost in.
But... you can do one or two club meetings every month - have lots of fun and keep the costs down.
