GYG Pro-Kart Endurance Challenge
Round
8 - Glan-y-Gors - 4th November 2007

The final round on 4th November for the 2007 Pro-Kart Endurance Championship at GYG, welcomed 21 teams, which included two Subaru's teams, a couple of new Prokart teams, and the rest of championship contenders looking for serious points to add to their championship final positions. It was going to be a big challenge for the top contenders - GKD 66, Staffs Bulls, Mizzi Racing, MBC Racing and Ecolab, where every point was crucial.

Weather conditions for November in Wales unexpectedly were sunny, bright and not too cold.

Staff Bulls had a determined start by qualifying in pole position (49.80secs), with Mizzi Racing next on the front row, followed by MBC Racing and GKD 66 on the second row and Ecolab and RPM Doods on the third.

Staffs Bulls led the way with the front runners from the start, joined by GC Racing, GP Racing and Propaint who also wanted a piece of the action. GKD, however, although starting fourth on the grid soon worked to the front snatching the lead from the Staffs. It was going to be a close race with the top 5 teams within hundreds of each other on lap times. Trailvan who had started from the pits were ten laps adrift and had some serious work to do.

GC and GP Racing stayed in touch with the frontrunners having a continued little challenge of their own. The next group of five Propaint, Ecolab, MWC Juniors, Datum and SAS were only a second to three behind. Quest 1 & 2 like GC and GP Racing appeared difficult to separate and were just one lap down on the pack.
By the hundredth lap GKD's push for victory had started to show a lap up, which was going to give some time towards the pit stops. Datum the Dragon Masters 2007 had pulled up to fourth from the middle pack, but they were struggling to get 49's on their lap times. Trailvan continued to suffer and were forced to retire as were MWC Juniors retiring after 95 laps following an incident.

MBC Racing took the lead from GKD 66 for a short time during the pit changes, but it wasn't to last against GKD's efforts for the title. Staffs Bulls times were unable to make an impact on the leader and now were in the position of having to fight for second or third in the championship, against Mizzi and MBC. Mizzi and MBC Racing were having a great position battle, with both teams staying in the top five places.

The second to fourth championship places were all still to play for; with Mizzi, Staffs Bulls and MBC every position gained would make a difference to the championship outcome. With all three teams on the same lap and staying in touch with each other it was too close for comfort.

GKD 66 took the chequered flag to the teams delight and relief, giving them their fourth Championship Title. Mizzi took a well-deserved second, with Staffs Bulls third who had managed to ride out a problem for most of the race.
