Christodoulous’ Dominate At Shenington

Karting cousins Riki and Adam Christodoulou stamped their authority on the Formula ICA and Formula JICA championships, respectively, on Sunday during the penultimate round of the season at Shenington Kart racing circuit, near Banbury. In a stunning display by the West Midlands aces, the pair produced four victories, four pole positions and three fastest laps between them in the points-scoring Finals to shake-up the BTE Lawline/Renault ABkC ICA Championship and BTE Lawline/Renault MSA British Junior Kart Championship standings.

Meanwhile, in the blue riband BTE Lawline/Renault MSA British Kart Championship, Mark Litchfield (Rocester, Staffordshire) secured enough points to lift the prestigious Formula A crown despite staying off the Finals podium for the first time this season.

Formula A

With 478 out of a maximum 500 points from 10 races, Mark Litchfield has already done enough to clinch the Formula A Championship – he doesn’t even need to score during the final round of the year at Larkhall in Scotland in seven weeks time. With each driver dropping their two worst scores at the end of the season, none of Litchfield’s rivals can catch him.

Mark bagged two fourth place finishes at Shenington, but not without some hard racing, while it was Jeremy Metcalfe (Fleet) who moved into second position in the standings after two well deserved victories. Gary Catt (Thruxton, Hampshire) took a brace of second places in the two Finals, with Jason Edgar (Cleator) taking the last podium place in Final One and Alex Sims (Pinchbeck) finishing third in Final Two.

Formula ICA

Reigning Formula JICA Champion Riki Christodoulou (Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield) dominated the two ICA Finals, his unchallenged clean sweep elevating him to third in the Championship. Tom Brown (Irchester, Northamptonshire) battled from 10th on the grid to second place in Final One, while Freddie Martin-Dye (Shamley Green, Guildford) took the final step of the podium in Final One, then went one better with second place in Final Two.

Danny Cruttenden (Wilmington) dropped from fourth on the grid in Final One to 11th position but then made amends by taking third in Final Two. He retains his lead in the standings but is being chased hard by Martin-Dye, who jumped from fourth to second in the championship and is now nine points behind. Christodoulou moved from fifth to third in the championship while Jon Lancaster (Pudsey, Leeds) had another torrid weekend, completing only five laps of Final One and one lap of Final Two.

Formula JICA

Adam Christodoulou (Litchfield) took his first Finals race victory of the season in Final One, and showed it was no fluke by repeating the success in Final Two to move into second place in the Championship. Conditions did not allow Craig Copeland (Wimborne Minster) to repeat the wet-weather form he showed at Clay Pigeon, but the series leader was second in Final One and third in Final Two.

Max Chilton (Chatham) was the final podium finisher in Final One before challenging Christodoulou for the lead in Final Two. Max, who has only competed in the last six rounds of the Formula JICA Championship, snatched the lead on a couple of occasions but couldn’t break open the Christodoulou lock out.
