There is no simple answer to your question as it partly depends on your budget/access to funding and and a realistic view of your lad's ability.

If budget and ability are at club level then look at the classes that have good grids at your local tracks.

If the budget allows for a national series then look at either S1 classes or Birel ART (used to be called Easykart). The latter has the possibility of competing in the World finals in Italy and is relatively low cost but you may not be able to do extra races at your local tracks.
