From my limited experience, it's not very good and tends to close too early. You'd be better off spending the money on a quiet practice day and practicing starting yourself. Start, do a few laps, come back in and have another go. Keep doing it until you do it easily.

A lot of the problems can be solved by getting the idle screw set so you have enough throttle. I know a few who start themselves with just this. I use a Kestrel hand throttle which helps a lot, others have made their own home-made versions. Or you can try an easy-start wheel if you have weight on your side.
