Why does a plug need a separate 'screw on' top? Seems like a throw back to the days of spade connectors on the lead or making a loop in the wire, ie. 50 years ago. Looking in my bucket of spares I see plugs from NGK, Champion and no doubt others who manage without. Thinking back there were plug tops which gripped on the thread and required discarding the brass top.
