I've been thinking about K nuts for a while, sad I know.

I know many of you use them and also use high speed nut guns.

New K nuts are going to be tight when you first use them and gunning them on at high speed creates a lot of friction and heat on the thread and can result in galling of the threads.

This can make it difficult or even impossible to remove them, hence the stud comes out instead when you come to remove them.

Another thing that happens is the nut actually stops before it is seated due to the heat and friction and you think it's tight but it's not.

The result will be a lost wheel when the studs break off in cornering.

That's why some of us only use old K nuts that go on by hand.

I know it sounds very F1 when you zip them on but if you can, go a bit slower.
