We have been racing a 2012 PJ1 in MSA for the last 2 years....and I'm Still learning now! As for getting used to the power, chuck him out and see how he gets on,some kids learn fast and some take a while. As for tyre pressures, it all depends on a number of things, outside temp, track temp how many laps youre doing, start on 24 PSI and see how he gets on. Check his tyre pressures as soon as he comes in off track. They should only go up a few PSI...if more than 4 they have got too hot and you'll need to drop a couple of PSI out. In the dry Start him off with 20mm of spacer on the front wheels, and set the ride height in the middle on the front spacers and leave the rear in the middle on the ride height unless it gets really hot then drop the kart on its 'arris. Bring the rear wheels in 10mm ( 5mm each side) or fully out if it get really hot. If its really wet put 35mm spacers on front and lift the front of the kart up by putting all but 1 of the spacers on the top of the stub axle. And bring the rear wheels in 10 to 15mm each side on the rear and lift the rear of the kart up by putting the rear axle on the bottom holes. Buy some lazers as youll need to constantly check your tracking and camber. We use Sniper Lazers. Don't go buying any expensive engines until he has maxed the one he has already. Dont buy a T1 engine, Try and keep the revs above 6000rpm and the lower revs above 3000rpm. Change your engine oil every 2-3 hours and more if its been raining. Mobil 5W-20 oil is ok to use while he is still learning, Jo Gibbs 0W-20 when he is chasing the top guys. Weigh him whilst he is sat in the kart, he needs to be 103KG or heavier when racing, so try and practice as near to the racing weight as you can, or he will have a shock when you whack 15KG of lead on the kart. Also make sure it has the 16mm restrictor fitted between the carb and engine. I could go on and on and on and on.....
Good luck...........
