for a con-rod, it shouldnt require any special running in.....but if it were piston-rings or a new camshaft I would say yes.......but if it makes you feel better, get some Joe-gibbs BR (break-in oil), Dartford Karting sell it, its mineral based and not synthetic, so it allows all key components in a new engine to correctly wear and bed-in at the early stages, do 2 hours on 2 oil changes, then run the normal KRT.

The main problem with todays synthetic race oils like KRT, is they are actually too good at protecting the engine and dont allow it to bed in properly, it just takes too long.

You are doing the right thing, the con-rod is definitely one of the weak links, if you start really pushing it, get yourself a forged piston, whereby the standard cast piston will disintegrate when its had enough in a really highly strung motor - not good.
