where the cable runs behind the seat into the engine, this sometimes causes a dog-leg bend in the cable causing friction, also any cable-ties applied on the frame can also cause a local pressure point, avoid any tight bends and keep the cable-outer as flowing as possible, so to speak

On the linkage, the M6 nut which is visible from the top sometimes needs to be looser than you realize, back it off half a turn at a time and see what happens

failing that, the inner liner can really degrade badly with age and use and it fills with powder which causes it to bind up, and you just need to chuck it in the bin and replace it, they are peanuts new, and its not worth the risk......fit a new one
