Get most of my clothing from Demon Tweeks, but only get a helmet from somewhere where you can try it on & with good advise.
If you are doing arive-n-drive you should be OK with standard kart race-ware, expiry dates are always easy to see, normally the back of the collar.
If you drive in the wet get a good quality wet suit, its worth it!
