I am in agreement with you.

I thought I had said exactly what you are saying when I wrote

"You may present testimony in support of your case when you make a complaint, but of course if, in the opinion of the official, such testimony comes from a tainted source, then they are equally right to refuse to take it into account."

ie: You can present the testimony but its up to the officials as to whether they give it any weight.

I think what many officials mean, when they say they won't / can't accept video footage, is that "We are short of time, don't make us sit through a long video procedure that will often be inconclusive and if the defendant decides to appeal probably cannot be presented, so we will discount it, especially if that's all you have".

It's probably a wrong attitude but having seen how quickly the presentation of a case can go from establishing a fact to 'getting my client off by any means necessary', it is understandable from the official's point of view. (Not just the official, we have all sat around waiting for a case to be resolved before the next heat / final can take place.)

The point is that the drivers and the officials have different perspectives on these things, dismissing the officials' perspective as 'pile of crap from MSA' is not a helpful attitude.

"It makes you wonder what would be so important to get a lawyer involved..."

The ambition of a parent for their child. I've known a case drag on for two years, where the driver concerned had forgotten all about the incident but the parent was determined that the 'wrong' done to his child had to be corrected. It is rumoured that the legal costs ran to thousands, two years of my karting budget at least!
