There is an argument that a direct-drive BT82 doesn't need *any* tick-over speed. Certainly, if you have a 'hand-operated seat-back throttle', you don't even need it to restart the motor out on track. In reality, your race is over if you spin and stall a TKM anyway.

There is also an argument that, if your TKM ticks-over on the braking phase, then the motor is trying to over-ride your braking.

There's another argument which says, applying the brakes to a TKM which it trying to tick-over at 3 to 4 thousand RPM increases the running temperature of the motor.... which can lose you power.

A Direct-Drive TKM will not stall if it has no tick-over so long as you have speed higher than about 5 to 10 mph. So long as there is sufficient fuel 'behind the butterfly when you request more power, then there is little to be gained having any sort of tick-over and direct drive.

Still..... this is just mt opinion......
