Not so sure about the concensus. Your son can race a cadet kart in msa racing to the end of the year in which he reaches 13. All the rules for msa kart racing can be downloaded from the msa.org. uk site. You need the 2015 yearbook section U karting and the karting yearbook 2015 Gold Book. However we now have non msa kart racing IKR with a more relaxed approach. This forum is heavily biassed toward msa racing. More IKR on karting 1.co.uk. Shennington and Whilton are almost entirely msa. Stretton runs non msa. Many tracks run both at separate meetings. A cadet kart is smaller and shorter at 90cm wheelbase than all others at around 104 cm and runs at 103kg with driver. Engine options are Honda gx160.with much the same power and gearing as the Ninja.or comer or current IAME 60 cc 2 stroke.with similar performance. You put a few requirements in your original post and if we stick to those. IMO. you can't get into a cadet kart. You won't get a TKM or Blue ,or any junior 2 stroke for £500. This leaves us with the twin engined prokart, a standard 2stroke kart converted to take a single 160 or better 200 honda ( bit 'numb' for you) ,or possibly a World formula kart (single modified Briggs engine). Having said all that there is nothing to compare with a screaming air cooled 100cc 2 stroke.
