All fair comments from all, but the underlying issue is why fix something which ain't broke?

The only reason to change ref. us the racers are for 3 reasons as far as I can see;
1 - the whole unit or it's ancillaries are unreliable and need changing - done before - clutches, maybe coil (rev limiter added) maybe conrod could do with looking at so it is lifted the same as the rest of the bottom end.
2 - The whole unit or it's ancillaries don't have parity -this is a much bigger one to deal with, maybe the intro of the post 09 barrels helped a bit, maybe the 13 and 14 engines - barrels have better parity more so.
3 - changing something makes it cheaper, er - can't find a single example of this with Rotax!

Reasons for Rotax (and their vested interest - rightfully so as they are busineses at the end of the day - supply chain to the market - engine builders and distributors)to change things.

1 - they get a load more business selling new bits / engines and upgrading the same. Seems to me all of these bits / engines fall into this category.

2 - the ancillaries sales become more of a monopoly - excluded old apprilia marked items.

3- hide behind the real reasons noted above on the basis of it is progress and / or to compete with competition - i.e. X30, i.e. units are more powerful - the market wants to race with more powerful units?????????

It doesn't matter within reason what the power of the unit is as long as they are all the same? For this reason comparisons between units (rotax & x30) which is faster are pointless. It's the tyres that have more affect on pace. Given reasonable reliability and parity it's the tyres which sell a formula; from what I have been told the Komet tyres stay on pace for longer so you can compete for more than one race day on a set of tyres - not so for Mojos. So rotax would be better to look at the tyres rather than the engines for overall sales - cost effective re useable tyres would support the continued sales of engines and other stuff - all in the current spec. with no need for change. If they don't then the organisations whom run karting should control tyre use through a national data base of tyre barcodes linked to race entries where you declare your barcodes when you enter, the race entry admin. people check the data base to see if you have raced anywhere else on a new different set and if they set a rule you must race at least 2 (Mojos would be good for at least 3) race days on one set of tyres this can be controlled so everyone has to use a new set of tyres for more than one race day. The scruits just check the barcodes against what is on your race entry on race day morning. Simples - it sounds complicated but it is not. It won't happen as there are too many vested interests. Rotax then sell less tyres and they then might be forced to look at tyres that are competitive for more than one race day??
All that said why do people still race on new Komets each race day!!!!!!!!!
