We have a JTKM Jade with a Kelgate brake. My lad was struggling with adapting to this from the cable operated one on his Cadet, and I have heard from others that the Kelgate is known to be more 'grabby' (technical term!). We moved the pedal/master cylinder connection points to give the least mechanical advantage, but this didn't have a huge effect. We then tried the harder 'red' pads and he found this much better.

My understanding is that the co-efficient of friction with the harder pads is lower, therefore requiring more pedal pressure to achieve the same friction on the disc.

It all depends how you like your pedal, lots of pressure or very light touch for the same braking effort.
