Exactly - the question was rightly asked, and wrongly answered. My understanding of the MSA rules is that if the two sessions have a certain percentage difference, the CoC has the flexibility (not necessarily the duty) to compensate by merging the TQ groups. Surely if that's the case, then the sensible thing would be to have followed that, rather than stick to the white sheet?

Everyone in our awning was scratching their heads about that sentence (Item 8), so I'm glad someone understood it!

With such a massive difference in times, that's clearly what should have been done, particularly after the response given at briefing.

For the flags, from what I saw it looked like there were still battenbergs out around the hairpins, but red flags by the dummy grid, which presumably was what prompted MB to step onto the track and slow the front pack to a stop. Those still following instructions from the marshall posts further back had no idea the race had been stopped, hence the mayhem.
