Loosen the bolts that hold the disc as well but do remember to re tighten them.

The reason it is so hard to push the axle through the brake disc carrier is because it is being pshed over at an agle and gripping the axle.

Apply the brake hard and put a cable tie around the pedal to the front bar, you'll find it will slip though easier.

It can help to tap the brake disc with a soft mallet on the opposite side to where the caliper is as you tap the axle through. Tapping it towards the force you are applying.

Carefully file any grub screw burrs with a flat file.
