Thats the thing. you don't know that my view doesn't represent the majority.

you may be horrified to find it does. you maybe delighted to find it doesn't.

In reality its probably somewhere in the middle. But if were always all in the middle you just get mediocre results and nothing a bit special.

If you solely focus on safety you end up with something rubbish to watch and do.

the problem is things have swung too far into the safety first way. and its spoilt the sport, not only does it cost more now. its also hugely more complex and causes bad weekends more often.

i have an example.
Chain Covers.

there went many problems without them funny enough.
now if your chaingaurd falls off you get a mechanical... WHY? Why spoil a weekend just for a bit of plastic?

so now not only have you got to buy a new one. (£40 or so) but you had to cut your race short.
Is it any safer with chaingaurds....who know it was never a major issue anyway......

Increased Safety raises costs, adds complications and benefits the trade only in most cases.... you only have to look at the ABKC newsletter to see a bit about earplugs. (no vested interests? who's mate manufactures them lol?)

the only safety measure i thought was slightly inteligent was the seat stay washers....

Standing starts "safer" but now its costing you in clutches and is making the sport more boring to watch and do.
So safety will only ever cost you more and more money. making the sport less and less accessable and spoiling more and more weekends with non compliance issues.

Safety run off - doesn't reduce accidents it just gives poorer drivers more room for error to keep there foot in. while punishing the higher skilled. It creates grey areas and promotes people to get annoyed. If you have grass or something that you loss time on. then drivers can't gain an unfair advantage and the higher skilled drivers won't get annoyed. the observers can then watch for contact more.
