Ricardoo implies that he is wanting to use a caliper designed for a thick 16? mm disc with a thinner 12?mm disc . He is aware that it is desirable to keep the pistons as far back in the caliper as possible, but as RI points out wholesale shimming is not the answer as the pad is moved forward out of its location recess. The only proper solution would be to split the caliper and machine the mating surfaces to suit the thinner disc or use the appropriate combination of disc and caliper.
