I'm not directly involved in karting anymore, only engines. So I wasn't aware of flywheel magnets failing, I've only seen this before on clone engines. But reading your post all becomes clear and it gets worse, much worse. The new GX160 flywheel has in theory the same timing as the GX200 old and new. Which is roughly 5 degrees different to the old GX160, even though the colour of the magnet support has not changed (e.g. white).

Anybody who wanted to use a GX200 flywheel in a GX160 without detection would need to remove and replace the factory fitted and bonded magnet!!!! Penny dropping yet?

Anybody doing this would be IMO grossly irresponsible and potentially putting childrens lives at risk. If I was still a karting parent I would be asking some very direct questions of my engine builder. I wouldn't think Honda would be too happy about this development either! They have more than a few plastic cups at stake in terms of reputation.
