All sage advice about that single action but, for me, missing the big picture, and the main issue that Junior Father's recent experience was highlighting: Mixing Rotax Max and X30 in race grids is a bad idea.
If, as some are advocating, MSA clubs go to a mixed class of Rotax and X30, I believe this kind of driver dilemma will be happening all through the grid in every race - to drivers in both classes. This is because, despite apparently similar lap times, under race conditions, with large grids of varying ability and relatively tight tracks, the significantly different engine and tyre characteristics make the two classes essentially incompatible with acceptable levels of safety.
Choices will need to be made under race conditions by frustrated drivers, and, in my opinion, with the current "bumper car" attitude far too many drivers show, carnage will ensue, and people can get hurt. The alternative is that the frustrated drivers will walk away from the sport.Neither option is very appealing. Mixing classes on a practice day is fine, but not in a race.
