Ooooooo.... Thanks for that advice.

I promise I'll give it EXACTLY the same consideration that I have given to all the OTHER ....original people.... who have said it over the years! Please also note, I only describe people as 'morons' if deserve it!

Your views and opinions have been fine so far so, let's not make a big thing of it... you seem a decent bloke!

However....

One of the reasons why the Austrians don't use salt is that they have weather that is TOO cold for salt to do its job. If I remember my schoolboy science correctly, salty water freezes around -5 degrees (depending on the amount of salt) and thus, if you use salt when it's below 5 degrees.... nada!

Snow chains only work when there if 'proper' snow. The slushy stuff we usually get on roads in the UK would mean that the snow chains would wreck the tarmac in DAYS as our public would continue to drive with the snow chains fitted for the SAME length of time that the morons (note the word) who will CONTINUE to leave-on their fog lights (front AND rear) after a bad weather snap! These are the people who don't have the IQ to realise that fog lights:-

(Rear Ones)
1) increase the chance of a rear-end-shunt as many drivers are unable to notice the brake lights coming on when they are 'obliterated' by the fog lights.

2) Dazzle the person behind and stop them from being able to see the road

(Front ones)

3) React like leaving your car on FULL BEAM and dazzle drivers coming towards you!

If that wasn't enough.... it's ILLEGAL to use your fog lights (front OR rear) unless visibility is less than 100 metres.......

If people are incapable of handing their lights correctly when they only have to use a SWITCH, think how they would behave if they had to get out and fit/remove SNOW CHAINS in nasty, wet, cold conditions! No thank YOU! Keep the great British public AWAY from snow chains, please!

Our systems are NOT good in the UK because so many of our PEOPLE are IDIOTS! (see, I didn't call them 'morons', did I? I am getting better!)

Ian
