As my daughter is in her last 'teaching practice' before the end of her degree and simply L*O*V*I*N*G it, it's not likely that I am going to blame the teachers, is it?!

The REAL cause of the closures is the VAST number of parents who will S*U*E the schools if Johnny bruises his knee falling over on the ice! The problem is with this INSANE thing that MY generation has allowed to occur: that of allowing the greedy and the stupid to BLAME schools for incidents that happen in NORMAL everyday LIFE! The falls in the playground, the grazes on the playing field, etc.! What we SHOULD have done is to have included the word 'REASONABALE RISK' within the legislation so that nobody COULD have been sued if only REASONABLE risks had been allowed. And faling over on the idce at school IS a REASONABLE RISK!

I'll give an odd example! My council runs a 'hall' with a playing field attached! I received notice that we were being sued for an injury a child received (slightly twisted ankle) when it fell over a RABBIT HOLE in the field outside. Luckily, it was NOT my council as there are two of us with the same name and it was REALLY one in Yorkshire (Tee hee!).

However, the POINT should have been that we (or they) should have been able to SUE THE PARENTS for wasting OUR TIME with a frivolous claim! We councillors have WONDERFUL powers (oh yeahh....) but not even GOD can manage to stop rabbits burrowing or children FALLING over the holes!

What sort of MADNESS has MY generation allowed to occur????! Damn it! Falling over rabbit holes is DESIGNED to teach you to be CAREFUL! The pain is there to TELL you it's worth LOOKING where you are GOING! (Oooooh..... steam is coming out of my ears at this point!)

The schools closed to STOP these B*ST*RD parents being able to SUE and costing the schools a FORTUNE! Once again, it's NOT some faceless bureaucracy that has caused the problem..... it's US lot! We... the PARENTS... have done it TO OURSELVES!

Ian
