As we've been running Junior TKM for the past 3 years, should be able to answer your questions:

1. 250ml to 5 litres is fine, (we've been running that for the past year), although you may cause more wear on the engine with that ratio. I would suggest 275ml until you are confident. 300ml is too high.

2. Carb settings for Junior is 1+3/4 turns out on the low, and 1/4 on the high. Turning either of the jets clockwise leans the mixture. You should find that the above settings will be perfect for a Clutched engine. Set the idle by turning the screw on the butterfly arm (the bit that the throttle cable goes into). About 4500rpm should be right. You will find that the engine tries to stall once it gets hot (this is normal), just use trial and error to get it right. You can set the paddle height on the cab as follows: take off the bottom cover and remove the diaphragm, with the gasket on, place a metal rule across the bottom of the carb, the distance between the paddle arm and the ruler should be 1mm. Replace the diaphragm and cover. If you have a pressure tester, set the carb to pop-off at about 9psi and settle at 5psi.

3. Sprocket. Set the carb up to achieve maximum revs at the end of the longest straight. For a Novice, this may mean a larger sprocket than that used by a more experienced driver. As your driver becomes more confident (and the revs get higher) you can reduce the sprocket size.
