Sorry Ken, I should have clarified that in the original posting.

People associate 'hydro' with water and often refer to it being 'hydroscopic', that's why I put it in brackets.

I used to make hygrometers and barometers so I do know the difference.

We also have:

Hydrophilic, water loving. Perhaps we could use that for mineral properties.

Hydrophobic, water hating. Perhaps we could use that to describe synthetic properties.

Yes polymers.

Newtonian? Hmmm, maybe non Newtonian. I'm good, but NOT good enough to walk on water, YET.
