I only ever used the heavy floats so am not best to advise on performance issues , although there should not be any difference or everyone would only use one particular type . Maybe they individually suit different types of circuit .
Remove float bowl , turn carb upside down and look at the float lever arms on the fuel cut off needle assembly , they should be parallel to the casing of the carb where the float bowl was secured too .
If not gently bend them to the correct angle .
The idea of using a drill bit , 3mm I think , is to make it easier for your eye to judge the correct height of the lever arms in relation to the base of the carb where the float bowl secures to .
Hope this helps , its easier to do it than to read how to do it !
