Hi Dan,
Well the Mychron 3 Club, which is a non-downloadable version, is still available as far as I know but isn't worth the £35 saving in my opinion.
The are many differences between the 3 and 4, the main ones being it's far easy to navigate on the 4 with 2 main menu screens that basically operate like a mobile phone with images and a description. You can the set-up things like split times, RPM settings, drivers name, track name, etc. This is all stored so if you do download the data, it transfers to Race Studio 2. The downloading had also improved to a USB key, so you don't have to plug in a cable via a laptop next to the kart.
The 4 has a backlight built in, an RPM tattle l.e.d which can be set to flash at a preset max RPM, and also 2 red l.e.d temperature warning lights.
The way it stores data is improved also, with the best 3 laps from session quickly displayed, included high & low RPM, max temp, speed and RPM for the session. It also displays the whole session’s data in other forms, including a bar chart to view consistency, an RPM trace, split time page and theoretical best laps.
The 4 also allows for easy expansion as well, with plug-ins like the E-box and GPS modules.
That's a basic overview anyway...
