To reposition the Rotary Valve you will first need to remove the sprocket and valve cover. The rotary valve is on a triangular hub, and has 6 possible positions. First of all you need to get it the correct way round. Any writing will be on the inner face of the valve/the worst of the circular scratch marks on the outer face. Turn the crankshaft until the piston is at top dead centre, and fit the valve to the hub such that the edge of the valve is just starting to close the inlet port (rotation being clockwise as your looking at it), and has fully closed it at about 80degrees of crankshaft rotation after TDC. Continuing to rotate it should result in the inlet port just starting to crack open at about 45degrees after bottom dead centre. Then just refit the valve cover plate and sprocket.
