But this is the problem David. We are talking about entry level classes here. That means:

a) Understanding the theory takes experience - which only comes through track time (expense) or by running with a team with that experience (expense). It also has the effect of putting of people from joining the sport as that steep learning curve becomes all the more steep

b) Understanding how to test means testing ... which surely is the same issue. Testing = expense. There are plenty of kart racers or potential kart racers who would prefer just to spend their limited budget on racing. Why should you need to test for hundred of laps to compete? Save that for the top level classes. I really believe the entry level classes should be simple enough for people to just turn up and race and still be competetive if they have the driving ability.

The fact is that as long as these options do exist in the entry level classes, it does make it more expensive and more daunting for people to enter the sport.
