It would be nice if it worked like that but it does not.

Regardless of the size of the mainjet (within reason) the needle dimensions control the mixture up to around ¾ throttle and after that it’s the mainjet on its own.

Try a little experiment, remove the mainjet and then run your engine you will find that it performs perfectly normally up to around ¾ throttle following which it trips up as the 266 mainjet kicks in.

The best way to think about the different needles is to consider them as different carbs and jet each as the engine/exhaust combination requires.

Then if no other means are available to you, write down all of the variables including the weather parameters.
