First off, welcome to UK Karting. As you've already seen, its not too dissimilar to other forums where debate is the order of the day :-)

In answer to your question.

Yes a Formula TKM 2 stroke kart like a 2003/2004 Venom Sidewinder with BT82 Extreme is a very good entry point to the sport. The TKM /2 category is affordable, reliable and sometimes competitive, but before you take the leap and purchase one, can I possibly ask a few questions of you ?

o Are you planning on racing the kart in MSA events ? If so, its worth finding out whether the TKM /2 class is run at your local track. Its not run everywhere and there are tracks where the numbers are quite small.

o Is this the first kart you've looked at ? The 2003/2004 Sidewinders were competitive in their day but had a reputation for developing cracks and breaks. I know because I had one. As a first kart its something you could do without, so I'd probably recommend something like a Wright or a Gillard from the same period as the construction tended to be a lot better in those.

o Are you planning on racing in the junior or senior class ?

Just to reiterate, the karting fraternity is a close knit, if often argumentative bunch of people... but there's only one thing we enjoy more than seeing a new driver on track and that's winning :-)

Welcome !
