Engine rental is far less likely to work because of the nature of an engine that varies in performance throughout its lifespan. For engine rental, each engine must be completely identical. Providing 2, let alone 20+ identical engines would be impossible. I speak as somebody who has lost a national championship by being given a bad 'rental' engine.

For sure, a cheque book can buy performance, from Cadets to F1. But Buy back could get those cheque books buying performance for everyone in the field not just 'little Johny'.

Gods, I'm sounding like I actually support this idea, not so. But only because of 'if it isn't broke, don't fix it'.
