That's plain weird!

Those of us who LIVED through the 1970s know EXACTLY why those industries (and thus the jobs') were ZOMBIES: they had already DIED but were still walking!!

Before you spout this stuff, please go and look up the causes of, for example, the:

* Grunwick strike
* History of Red Robbo
* The Winter of discontent (where we could not get my 'sister in law' buried for nearly TWO MONTHS! And I had to take my father in law to hospital, with a heart attack, on the floor of an ESTATE CAR!)
* Flying pickets
* The previous Miner's strike!

You may STILL hold your views about the Tories after that: that's your right.

However, what I DON'T understand is your claim that the Tories damaged the working classes and THEN you state :-

"Giving the working classes the chance to buy their houses on the cheap"

..... so.... where is the DOWNSIDE to the 'working classes' (wrong name, of course) in selling them their houses? Surely, if the Tories had sold them cheaply to the MIDDLE classes, you could have complained on behalf of the 'working class' but how the HELL do you complain about HELPING the working classes reach what many of them DREAMT of??

I PERSONALLY helped a guy who was a journalist on the Socialist Worker newspaper, a paraplegic and strict (hard left) Labour councillor buy his OWN council house! House ownership was against EVERYTHING he stood for and sales of council houses was anathema to him..... but he could NOT refuse the (to his mind) FABULOUS chance to own his OWN house! He HATED the Tories through and through but even HE rejoiced (literally) to be given the chance to buy his OWN house! He, a HARD left councillor, would not and DID not agree with you!

Many of your karting colleagues will still be LIVING in those houses that were sold at the time.

*********

Finally, perhaps you'd like to tell us EXACTLY how this Labour Party have REVERSED the previous Tory govt.'s actions while in power which makes them BETTER than the earlier Tory government! Have they reversed the union rules on flying pickets, on requiring the vote BEFORE a strike, the closure of the mines, the run-down of the steel industry, the sale of council houses? Have they allowed GCHQ to hold strikes, have they allowed GCHQ workers to be unionised, have the re-instated the closed-shop in the Print, the Docks, the Mines, the Steel industry? Have they abolished the monarchy, have they replaced the House of Lords, have they REALLY given you a TRUE freedom of information act? Most critically, have they ABOLISHED the BOOM AND BUST cycle..... even AFTER they promised that they had?

But, worst of all, did they take us into a WAR after LYING to us about the reasons???????

From a 'socialist view', I'd say there was less than a FAG PAPER between this government and the previous Tory administration. How CAN you see such a marked difference between the earlier Tories and the Brown/Blair regime?

Ian
