Blimey!!

This is going on a bit!

The rules say that the protector has to have a pad made from Teflon, Nylon, Delrin, carbon fibre, Kevlar or Rilsan (sounds like medicine) so you can't have metal one.

I suppose you could always stick a few lighter flints in the plastic:}

I think you'll find that the regs. about white lines etc. go back to the days of the Goodwin Sands Kart Club, (like most of the bluebook), when the majority of tracks were temporary.

When the edge of the track was marked by the odd bucket of sand with a flag stuck in it you could make up a fair bit of time by taking a shortcut.

The early permanent tracks didn't need kerbs: if you went over the edge you fell down a hole and crashed!
