If a metal one isn't legal, it would follow that no part of a kart chassis is allowed to touch the track.

Our Kosmic is fitted with metal skids at the front and the sides to prevent damage to the chassis rails that gets caused by using the kerbs.

NOW, that is a part manufactured SPECIFICALLY by a kart manufacturer who KNOWS that drivers use the kerbs.

Does that mean that every time they make contact with the track it's 'illegal'?

So, why can't my brake disk protector be made of metal, seeing as it's protecting a METAL DISK.

Or are some people running brake disks made from pizza bases?

Doesn't it seem rather stupid to try and protect a metal disk with something resembling a Milky Bar strapped to your bearing hanger?
