Dan I switched from TKM to Max primarily because there's nowhere close to where I am with decent TKM grids. That's an important point to bear in mind. The second one is the cost of changing class. Aside from changing your rig, I've a ton of TKM bits and pieces, tyres, specialist tools etc... They're all useless to be now [unless I go back to TKM of course] and I've had to shell out a lot to get started in Max.

TKM is cheaper than Max, that's without question, but in a very competitive TKM arena you will probably find yourself spending significantly in any event. The most important thing to bear in mind these days is not to get carried away with expenses. Assess what you can afford to spend on your karting over the coming 12 months... then look at what that would get you in TKM [including the transition costs] against what you could do in Max. If you're talking about only doing 3 or 4 meetings over the course of a year there may not be a great deal of difference between the two.

By the way... you can stretch Max tyres more than one race too. I've used the same set of slicks for 2 practice sessions and 2 events, however I have to confess that its been part-raining in the events... but again that's something to bear in mind too.
