There is quite a well known fix for this .
Start with a new set of brushes but coat the braides with clear mastic very liberally so they are coated all round , once it has dries its still flexible so the braides can be bend to help with fitting but the coating keeps the braides together rather than letting them snap individually . Works a treat ...
