"but when at the top its slightly left, then below its slightly right?"

If the line moves in a straight line from top left to bottom right then the sprocket is not perpendicular to the crankshaft.

This is probably caused by a bent sprocket carrier, but it can be that the engine is misaligned from left to right (a bit of grit under the mounting plate or the plate is worn).

If the line is not straight but an arc then the axle is not aligned with the engine crankshaft. It might be higher or lower at one end or one end is further forward than the other.

Clearly, if the engine or axle arent square than you may be able to adjust it. If the chassis is bent then the problem may be more complicated. I presume you know how to measure your chassis?

The point is, replacing the sprocket won't make the slightest difference to that problem since a bent sprocket (put it on a flat surface to see) is out of line on one bit but in line on another.
