Are yoiu being fair here? When you can tell me the EXACT running costs of ANY engine, I will understand your point, better.

When you ask about the running cocts of a (e.g.) a Max, are you inclduing that JOKE suggested 50 hours between rebuilds or the MUCH more realistic (for front runners) 8 hours? Are you including the 'standard' engine parts or the 'selected' engine parts? Are you including PAYING for one of the 'special' ones? Are you including the costs of shipping an Australian 'Barrel'? What about the 'non standard' coils? What about the 'cryogenic' stuff?

My point is NOT that Rotaxes ARE expensive toi run but that NO ONE can goive you the exact cost of running ANY engine? Expanding this, how about the costs for the Cadets this year of the Tryton carbs> How about the cost LAST year for the 'selected' Tillotson carbs?

How about the fact that almost EVERYONE who is quick in classes having MORE than one engine?

My point is that Kai COULD quote you the running costs as being damned nigh ZERO! It IS true! The REASON we don't want to suggest that figure is becasue we ALL know it's a distortion of the truth! There WILL come a day when it needs servicing but we simply do not KNOW when that will be and I doubt that ENOUGH people have run them for long enough to have a 'good estimate' of the costs.

We've got NO REASON to hide the costs, the engine has been SO reliable that we simply CAN'T find out, yet!

One last logical question. Would your comment mean that IF ANY manufacturer built an engine which lasted for 1,000 years without ANY servicing that you could NEVER drive it until the first ONE HAD been serviced after 1,000 years???????

Ian
