Although I cannot comment on the current cadet brakes, I can confirm that a mechanical brake can be every bit as good as a hydraulic unit without some of the drawbacks (seal failure, air bubbles, sticking pistons). If the rules permitted it, I would run a mechanical brake on my FTKM kart.
