Hi Adrian,
I will not attempt to offer advice on set up etc, I will leave that to the more experienced but as an ex karting dad/mechanic I think the main thing that I remember vividly from our novice days was to check, double check and check again for anything coming loose, don't assume beacause it was tight at the start of the race it still will be at the end. Another point relevent to Rotax, put a cable tie or tape around the battery to avoid it flying down the track as it did with us after a bang up the rear, maybe the battery fixings are better now.
Finally you can't take too many tools, big mallet, crowbar/pipe, workmate, cordless drill, hacksaw, bits of metal strip (sidepod bracket repair) etc if you have got them. All came in useful for sorting out broken/bent bits.
Good luck at our old track.
Bill Dawes
