Norton does what it says on the tin.

Others don't like it; the rest of us don't like viruses and intrusions...... it's THAT simple!

It's annoying.... the LAST time this discussion came up, I was merrily defending Norton while others were ASSURING us all that 'this and that' software was BETTER! However, not ONE of the others who CLAIMED their system was the equal of Norton noticed that we were all under attack AT THAT VERY MOMENT! I had to inform certain people of the presence of a rather nasty little virus on a third party server! How did I know it was there? That's easy.....: I use NORTON! The others DIDN'T!

Yes! Norton DOES have problems! Trying to PAY them for the upgrade/annual licence is a complete JOKE! However, why BOTHER? It's actually cheaper to BUY A NEW COPY every year if you buy an OEM copy (no manuals, etc. who has EVER read the manuals?????) from places like Novatech:

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/dirresults.html?s=norton

Go for the 2009 Norton Internet Security OEM at £16.45. Check the facts: I believe (but can't GUARANTEE) that it includes Norton Antivirus for LESS than the price of Norton Antivirus on its own.

I delete the old version each year and then re-install the new one. You get the CD and so you have none of the usualu hassles if your PC goes down after you have bought a licence/download 'on line'!

Yes: it DOES slow your computer....... but not a FRACTION as much as 'catching' a virus... etc.!

However, I do use a physical firewall in my Router which deals with a lot of the problems on its own.
