Just an update regarding the thread below.
We went out and checked all the TV’s and reviews and decided that the Sony LCD's were the one's to go for because they didn't receive a bad review on any of their 32" and 40" LCD's. In the several shops we visited they always looked better than the Panasonic's, LG's and the Samsungs, motion blur was hard to detect and the colour seemed to be brighter on all of the Sony's. My little brother wanted a 40" so the choice on offer was the KDL40W4000 and the KDL40V4000 with both of them receiving an excellent review and costing about £700 and £800 respectively. These TV’s run in 60Hz. We then went to the Sony shop in the Trafford Centre and the sales rep advised the latest model to come in shop this week that was the KDL40Z4500 and the reason being that it runs at 100Hz which means there will be much less motion blur then the 60Hz LCD's especially in gaming view. Now this threw a spanner in the works as there are no reviews yet for the new KDL40Z4500 LCD but if it was an improvement over an already excellent KDL40W4000 then we couldn't just ignore it we had to at least consider it. Now it's price tag was more than the other two which wasn't surprising but it wasn't much more at £1200 but with that price you get a free PS3 which alone is worth £300 and it is a Blue Ray player as well as a console so all in all it is a good package on offer. On top of this they were including a 5-year warranty in the price.
Anyway we tested the new model and it appeared to be just as good as the salesman said, picture looked sharp and you couldn't really detect any motion blur. My brother decided to go for it because he wanted a PS3 anyway and he wanted to have the 100Hz option so he wouldn't have the worry of motion blur during gaming which seems to be the largest obstacle for an LCD to overcome.
Anyway I've just set up the T.V for him and watched a few demos and Casino Royal on Blue Ray and all I can say is that I'm honestly, completely and utterly gob smacked. It is absolutely perfect, I can't find fault with it, the detail is breathtaking, you can see every wrinkle, every bead of sweat, you can see the fingerprints on characters fingers when the camera is on a close up shot of say someone with a gun in their hand. It's absolutely awesome and I am a person who is hard to please. It handles the fast motion shots with ease and I really can't see any motion blur even on the gaming demos.
So to sum up for anyone looking for a Plasma or LCD T.V I would say that LCD is the way to go for at least 40" sets and possibly higher and the KDL40Z4500 must be without a shadow of a doubt the best 40" T.V you can buy, period. This is the T.V with the picture quality and performance that every manufacturer is striving to make and Sony have made it and crossed the finish line first, absolutely stunning. Put simply the only T.V that could better this would have to be a 3D T.V because you couldn't get better.
