A trickle charger is ok. We use an optimate 3 charger as sold for motorcycle use on our B5 batteries.

I agree with Daves running in advise and can confirm that after 4-6 hours of engine run time, your new motor will be significantly better.

We look at rebuilds in the 18-20 hour region. Across our 3 x B5s we have not had any kind of mechanical engine failure yet. I believe that if the engine is constantly reving well over 14k, you may want to revise your service scedules!
