"Proof not as in 100% sure but as in the legal sense of proving somebody innocent or guilty, the complete phrase is 'proof beyond reasonable doubt'."

As I said earlier...what do you consider 'reasonable'?
The VAST majority of sciebntific thinking is that CC HAS been affected by human activity. When do you consider that VAST is vast enough?

"Earlier in the thread I compared the action on climate change was like passing sentence before the verdict. The verdict should be based on 'proof beyond reasonable doubt' and that we do not have. IMHO."
Ever heard of 'majority verdict'?

"Belief is necessary in order to persuade the herd of humanity to take steps detrimental to their current standard of living. Only by making them believe in extraordinary climate change being caused by mankind can that change in behaviour be forced peacefully.

The motives of those trying to install that belief are at best questionable as is the 'proof' they try to provide.

Just as WMD was only ever an excuse for mass consumption to justify the necessity for other reasons to take down Saddam. So the climate change issue is quite possibly an excuse for all sorts of other unpleasant but probably necessary action. Population reduction being the principle among these."

OK...what exactly ARE these 'questionable' motives?

Increase taxes? Do you really imagine that governments WANT to increase taxes? Do they put the extra cash in their pockets? WHat do you think it does to their chances of being voted in 'next time'?

Population reduction?
Can you point me to the policies of any major governments that are ACTIVELY persuing population reduction? There is only ONE that I know of...and they are one of the MAJOR OPPONENTS of action on Climate change.

Hydrogen use?
Oh, yes of COURSE! The Oil companies are real EAGER to get us all to switch to hydrogen, obviously. After all, why should they want to keep making money. As well as the car companies. They are BOUND to want to spend HUGE amounts gearing up to produce totally different engines, fuel systems etc. when they already have spent enormous amounts on their existing products.

Reduction in energy consumption?
While this is obviously a 'good thing', it isn't to the energy companies. The British Government is, I am sure, thrilled to bits at having a FRENCH company set up to produce nuclear power in the UK. After all, why should we want to do it ourselves with our own coal?
