First, test against the clock. And first of that is to try to make FIVE laps with the same time! You can do that by REDUCING your pace to gain consistency. Once you have consistency, step the pace up.

Next, try to move you braking point later and later and KEEP moving it until you CANNOT (even after 5 or so attempts) make the corner. At that point, you'll know the limit.

One last one, try out all the WRONG lines.... I mean all the lines that you MIGHT have to make in an overtaking manouevre! Yes... we ALL practice the standard racing lines BUT.... how does THAT help when we are overtaking? Try to improve your lap times to as good as possible even when (for example) you take the line FAR too tight into the main braking zone! In that way, you will know MUCH better how to use THAT line when you need it!

Having said all that, there is a simpler concept: simple bum-in-seat time will make a HUGE difference! Just get in and DRIVE, that will improve your lap times. If you are doing that, then you should combine that bum-in-seat time with standard changes (track width, tyre pressure, carb adjustments, etc.) against the clock. That way, you'll know how to improve your chassis's performance while you are getting bum-in-seat time!
