Wellll....... That's one of those example of 'confounding factors' confusing the discussion.......

Let me explain by giving an example:

Believe it or not, there's a DIRECT statistical link between the number of 'Milk Teeth' (baby teeth) that you have and the number of Maiden Aunts that you have!

err...... WHAT?????

Now that looks BIZARRE and it's VERY hard to believe! What the HELL is the link between Maiden Aunts and your teeth????? Surely, there ISN'T one!!!

However, it is DEAD accurate and there IS a link!

Why? Because there is a 'confounding factor' involved. The YOUNGER you are, the LESS chance your aunt will be of being of 'marrying age'. As YOU get older, you lose your milk teeth AND your Aunts are also getting older at exactly the same time and are thus more likely to be getting married!

It's NOT that Maiden Aunts actual AFFECTS your teeth, it's because something ELSE is changing at the same time and it's THAT which is 'confounding' the discussion!

**********

In YOUR case, your earliest races coincided with you NOT having a clutch.

Firstly, you were probably on Black Plates and we ALL know how others HATE those on black plates so you got HIT more!!! Secondly, you were still learning HOW to race before you fitted the clutch. When you HAD learned to race and had removed the black plates, you were A*L*R*E*A*D*Y LESS likely to be hit and you were more capable of WITHSTANDING a hit! That coincided with the time you fitted the CLUTCH!

The point is that the example you gave is NOT 'definitive' because the 'experience confounding factor' alters the 'results'!

Be careful how you look at 'data'!

However, I am ALL FOR the option of having a clutch..... it's just such a HUGE cost and an even greater risk...... as noted by Chris Kasch.

On a final note: Rotax MAX uses a clutch and we all KNOW that THEY are ALL wimps! MEN drive TKM........
