I have just rebuilt my 100cc National enegine after holing the piston due to using a too hot plug and had a nightmare day at Rye House yesterday when trying to run it in.....

First of all stuggled to start the engine and when I did get it going it was 4-stroking massivly and would not clear at all. I was running the seetings on the carb suggested by the engine builder or Low 1 1/8 and High 1 3/4.

Obviously this was too rich so mixed some new fuel to be sure I had that correct (16:1) and then tried some leaner settings and same occured. Finally went back to the old red book which suggested Low 3/4 - and High 1 1/8 +. This time engine started well and i ran about 8 laps chocking it on the straights several times and gradually builing up the revs and load.

The engine seemed quite lean as there was hardly any smoke when getting on the throttle after lifting off. To ensure I wasn't doing damage I came in checked plug and richened the mixture on the high a small amount and also on the low - this resulted in us being unable to start the engine and even going back to the leaner setting did not work.

Sorry for the long post but after any advice / help as £45 for 8 laps and and an engine that is still not run in is not my idea of fun and that is what I bought the kart for!
